A study of postmenopausal women, published in Osteoporosis International, found that eating dried plums daily stops bone loss. Researchers from San Diego State and Florida State universities measured bone loss in 48 women who ate either 5 or 6 dried plums daily, twice that amount, or no dried plums. The smaller serving was just as eff ective as the larger one in preserving bone mineral density. A serving of 5 dried plums contains about 100 calories, nearly 3 grams of fi ber, 293 mg of potassium, and a variety of other nutrients. The dried fruit can be eaten as a snack or added to salads or other dishes.
